The whole plant vs some of the plant

by Oct 14, 2020

If you’re selecting plant medicine for the first time, you most likely start off as a purist. I mean, these are plants, growing out of the ground, perfectly attuned to survival over thousands of years.

Do they really NEED to be improved upon? Unfortunately, that’s not the way the world sees it, but as the famed sorta-scientist Dr. Ian Malcolm once said in Jurassic Park, “Life finds a way.” For us, it is wide-spectrum extracts, which not only helps us to get our products out to whomever may need them, but helps us dial in our precise formularies. In our 1CaB Healing Suite of Botanical Formulations, the proof really is in the proportions.

However, we’re NEVER going to be a strict isolate, because that is truly short-changing the revivifying potential of the plant. Nowhere in nature will you find pure Vitamin C growing from the tree, or a lone phytocannabinoid lying on the ground. Our professional grounding in permaculture has taught us here at Medicine Box to “Integrate, not Segregate.” So even when you have to create healing for a society hellbent on making itself sick, there’s always enough workarounds in nature to make sure life finds its way.

Consistency is the key

For all of our 1CaB products, we first begin with the concept of delivering practical lifestyle solutions for anyone using them. They start with the Seven Pillars of Music, Mindfulness, Nature, Food, Collaboration, Community and Recovery — all lifestyle elements we create our products to elevate. When you work with the whole plant, you don’t have to worry about synthetics, but there is natural variation from plant to plant. That’s a sticking point for most plant-derived supplements.

Our solution rests in the careful oil-based extractions devised for 1CaB by our Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Refael Aharon. For the fungi and the herbs, it’s whole-plant all the way. For the cannabinoids, we aim a laser-focus on the ratios between our cannabinoids.

These ratios help us deliver safe, non-high inducing results that can avoid bringing THC into the mix. It provides for a very different experience, subtler experience than the California-based Equanimity formulation, according to those who’ve done both. However, since we’ve already won an award in California with the original formulary, we’ve kept as close to it as possible. With Happy Belly, we’ve taken some inspiration from recent research which found powerful impacts on gut health for both CBG and CBC. And of course, with Vital Recovery, we’re using a cornucopia of mushrooms, cannabinoids and herbs for the ultimate performance tincture.

But what about the whole plant?

That said, it’s a real shame that we can’t work with ALL the tools in this wonderful healing laboratory that nature gives us. But it’s gotten us to think in terms of greater innovation, and it’s made our products that much better and more accessible as a result.

Indeed, everyone is on their own hiking trail when it comes to plant medicine, and we encourage you to explore. There’s a lot of good information out there — and a lot of bad as well. We suggest that you take along for the journey

  • A greater sense of imagination
  • More responsiveness to your immediate surroundings
  • A more finely-tuned sense of intuition

That alone can aid in your own healing, and create any life choice into its own medicine. Just always remember: let the plants do the talking. They’ve been here far longer than we were.
