Community: Medicine Box Ethos
e·thos | ˈēTHäs
noun: the characteristic spirit of a culture, era, or community as manifested in its beliefs and aspirations.
The nine ethos of Medicine Box, where all things are medicine and cannabis is the medium that weaves it all together. When combined synergistically with this ethos, Medicine Box is stewarding an evolving entourage effect of a lifestyle. It is every human’s right to live a happy and healthy life while exploring their own consciousness.
As the days get longer and summer permeates California, communities throughout the state are galvanizing for summer activities. A community is defined as “a social group of any size whose members reside in a specific locality, share government, and often have a common cultural and historical heritage.”
Medicine Box in the Community
Part of Medicine Box’s mission is to preserve the cultural and social dynamics of the cannabis movement. Much of this movement was built around the nonconforming back-to-lander types who chose a homesteader lifestyle over a corporate one. As this dynamic shifts, we strive to remember that the very demand for cannabis that we see now was built by these heritage farmers and the cannabis culture here in California.
We are experiencing one of the largest cultural shifts of our time as cannabis becomes more accepted around the world. Change on this scale doesn’t happen overnight though. It slowly builds over time within smaller communities. Right here in Nevada County, our cannabis community is in flux as the regulatory climate has shifted in favor of larger organizations, but it’s not too late to protect our heritage farmers.
Working Within Our Community
However, it doesn’t need to stay that way. As a community, we have the ability to influence mindsets and create change for a prosperous and sustainable future. A communal voice starts with a few individuals. By becoming one of these individuals and getting involved in your local community, you have the capability of contributing to something larger. Striving to make a positive impact within a community can be very therapeutic.
This coming Tuesday Nevada County will vote for a new sheriff as well as a District 3 supervisor. With a new progressive supervisor like Hilary Hodge and the leadership capabilities of John Foster as sheriff, the positive impact it will create for the cannabis industry here is a medicinal breath of fresh air from the toxic fumes we’ve been breathing. The Medicine Box team is excited about the changes this election could bring to our community.
Our cannabis community is ready for this shift, but it starts with the individual. Get out. Get involved. Vote. Become a voice for your local community and be part of the change. Community is medicine.
