Medicine Box Goes South: What We Learned About the SoCal Cannabis Movement

We went. We saw. We conquered. And the SoCal cannabis community was epic.

Last week three of the Medicine Box tribe members – our founder and two brand managers – loaded up our wooden boxes with product, packed our flip flops and headed south. Our mission: Los Angeles for 4/20 week. We attended a number of events, demo days, buyer meetings, power lunches, and even had some time for barbecues and hot springs.

Medicine Box Invades the SoCal Market

We started our trip in Venice, where we visited a number of elegant and well-curated dispensaries such as Zente Farms, Green Dot and Venice Alternative Healing. We even got our hands on some CBD kombucha, a dream come true. The 420 festivities began a day early at the 4/20 Eve party. Put on by The Dandelion Collective and Cannabis Feminist, 4/20 Eve was a unique and memorable affair.

It was held at an integrative art space in Venice that delivered a casual and engaging space for cannabis enthusiasts and newcomers alike. Everyone had the chance to enjoy and learn about a variety of products from Milo Mints, The Bloomfield Co, Mondo Meds, Jetty Extracts and of course Medicine Box. We spent our night conversing about all thing cannabis while guests sipped infused matcha lattes in their finest pajamas! We left with new friends, invaluable connections, and a perfect introduction into the SoCal Cannabis scene.

To Orange County, Hollywood and Beyond!

The rest of the trip consisted of blasting Phish and Drake while succumbing to the inescapable L.A. traffic on numerous drives across town. We held a demo day on 4/20 at Bud and Bloom, a beautiful and expertly curated dispensary in Santa Ana. We brainstormed some magic with the inspirational ladies of Higher Beauty in Sherman Oaks. Then we jetted off to the Hollywood Hills just in time to record a live podcast all about cannabis with Luke Storey – our favorite podcaster and the host of The Life Stylist Podcast..

What We Love About the SoCal Cannabis Scene

Through navigating all over L.A. and the many experiences we had, our tribe began to notice some eye-opening differences from the cannabis scene that we were used to. We also noticed the huge opportunity for brands like Medicine Box to tap into the more health and wellness oriented movement in SoCal.

There is a fresh mentality down south. With the exception of a few dozen O.G.s, cultivation and retail cannabis is relatively new to Los Angeles. This “newness” has created a vibrant, contagious energy that cannot be stopped. We witnessed a momentum we knew we had to tap into. Entrepreneurs are tuned into where this market is heading and how to best showcase cannabis as medicine; as a health and wellness tool that can take many forms and benefit so many people.

Medicine Box’s SoCal Presence

Now that we’ve had a taste, we will most definitely be back. Often. Stay tuned for more Medicine Box demo days, events, parties, and collaborations in Southern California. Next up is Higher Beauty’s Immersion event on May 13th in Malibu. This is a night you do NOT want to miss! Tickets and details here.

The Medicine Box Tribe wants to give a huge thank you to everyone that helped us feel so welcome and at home on our journey down south. We love you all and cannot wait to see what the future holds.

    1. Thanks for asking! We’re not in Los Angeles yet, but we’re working on it. In the meantime, check out our Where to Find Us page to see if there any dispensaries that work for you.

We received your email, so we’ll give you a more detailed response there.
