Caladrius Network Collaboration

For this week’s behind the scene feature, we would like to honor our partnership with the Caladrius Network, a Nevada County based network that supports parents of catastrophically ill children by providing up-to-date information and therapeutic cannabis products at no cost. The Caladrius Network provides a voice for children who can’t advocate for themselves or lack the ability to obtain safe medicine.

With the medical cannabis industry being a vast and growing marketplace, it became clear to Forrest Hurd (founder of the Caladrius Network,) that access to accurate and clear scientific based research and information on the specifics of treating rare illnesses in children was more important than ever. Forrest and his wife’s motivation to create and maintain this platform is their son Silas, who was diagnosed with Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome (a rare form of intractable epilepsy.) After trying a number of medications recommended by neurologists with little to no progress being made, they put their faith in the medicine of cannabis and started Silas’s path to healing. This has led to a deep understanding of the importance of individualized therapies for these children because as illnesses progress or alter, the treatments need to as well. The network provides education, support, and specialized cannabis therapies to families in need free of charge.

Meet Silas

Forrest became a full-time caregiver for his son Silas and a major voice and advocate for Nevada County. The importance of cottage grows farms that work with specific genetics is key for these children to get the medicine they need. “I don’t see that the cost of those people breaking the law should fall on the backs of innocent children,” says Forrest when speaking about county regulations around grow size. The Medicine Box team supports the voice of Forrest and his family, and the movement they created. For more on Silas, read this three part write up in the Sacramento Bee.

The Caladrius Network and Medicine Box Collaboration

Medicine Box collaborates with the Caladrius Network by donating a percentage of every harvest to the Caladrius Network and the families they support. Our donations are strategically bred by our geneticist and cultivation team based on the needs of the children supported by the Caladrius Network. These specific genetics and strains are chosen to target the specialized needs of the children and families within the network. It is our first full season in collaboration and we are not only deepening our relationship but developing our plant genetics so that there is an abundance of strains accessible that specifically treat

It is our first full season in collaboration and we are not only deepening our relationship but developing our plant genetics so that we have an abundance of strains that specifically treat the rare illnesses these children experience. This is possible through innovative techniques used by our cultivation team. The importance of small-batch medicine with quality control and the variety of appellations within our cultivation sites allows us to explore the specific genetics and climates that produce the highest quality medicine. We feel extremely honored to be walking this path with The Caladrius Network, and will continue to grow our relationship with them as we move forward.

Happy Medicine Box Monday,

Caladrius existed in Greek mythology under the name Dhalion. It is said to be able to take the sickness into itself and then fly away, dispersing the sickness and healing both itself and the sick person.
